Jennifer is a Victoria B.C. based music teacher who welcomes students of all levels, ages, and abilities to explore singing and performance. As a formally trained classical musician, Jennifer is ideally suited to guide students interested in exploring classical music and the full potential of their voice through an open and free singing technique. With her extensive performance background, Jennifer can also help students develop compelling performance skills. She is currently on voice faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music while also maintaining a private studio out of James Bay.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
As a teacher, Jennifer strives to help each student discover the sheer joy of singing. She encourages students to develop musical curiosity and a strong emotional connection to the text so that they become engaging performers on stage. In addition to learning repertoire, lessons will focus on exploring each student’s unique sound and full vocal potential through a healthy singing technique based on body resonance and vocal freedom. Students will develop additional skills in musicianship, interpretation, diction, and stage presence. Jennifer is happy to mentor students and work towards specific goals including RCM exams, festivals, auditions, or upcoming concerts. Jennifer’s students have received First Class Honours on RCM exams, won competitions, participated in the Collegium and Opera Studio Program at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and successfully auditioned for local choirs. She also enjoys working with motivated choristers who are looking to gain confidence in their singing and musical abilities.
